The Toll is the third book in the Arc of a Scythe series. The book is set in a sci-fi world in which death has been eradicated and scythes have the job of gleaning people to better humanity. As evil Scythe Goddard’s gleaning methods become more and more extreme, our protagonists have to find a way to save humankind. Overall, the Arc of a Scythe series is my all time favorite book series. The books are written through several perspectives, and diverse types of texts including journal entries and public announcements are used to break between chapters. The concept of a world in which there is no death is unique and interesting to read about. I would highly recommend the Arc of a Scythe series for any middle or high schooler wanting a unique, adventurous sci-fi story.
